splash  Whether its Louise Brooks, silent film, or the Jazz Age, the LBS website has long tried to be a resource-full website. Not only does it aim to provide visitors with a rich variety of materials to aid in their appreciation of the actress, it encourages individuals to learn more about silent film and the Jazz Age, not only by viewing films, reading on the subject, or exploring the internet, but by discovering their own interests. It can be a revelatory experience to see Pandora’s Box or Beggars of Life or a Buster Keaton or Clara Bow film on the big screen (with or without live music), or to find out Louise Brooks once danced in the town where you live, or to track down the local speakeasies, or the local theaters where silent films were shown in the 1920s. We all exist in a place and a time. All this is part of history, and all history is local — and what’s more, it is something you can explore.

This page is a jumping off point to other pages located on the Louise Brooks Society website or on one of its satellite sites, such as YouTube or SoundCloud. Besides checking out the pages noted below, let me add how important it is patronize the folks helping keep this art form and this era alive! If you can, go see a silent film in a theater, attend a film festival, or buy a DVD or book (or borrow something from your local library). Or, subscribe to a blog or YouTube channel, praise someone’s efforts, or contribute to a GoFundMe. (It ain’t cheap to restore or release a silent film, or to research, write and self-publish a book.) Your interest and your show of support in whatever form can mean a lot to the programmers, producers, authors, historians, webmasters and others who do what they can to keep silent film in the public eye. Join the silent film community. And like Louise, be part of the smart set.
