Following her death in 1985, Louise Brooks continued to appear on magazine covers published all around the world. Most of these magazines were related to film, though a few were not. This page presents a selection of magazine covers dating from 1986 to today. Others are known to exist, but these are either the most significant, little known, or visually appealing. Another page on the Louise Brooks Society website showcases magazine covers dating from 1955 through 1985. Click HERE to visit that other page. If you know of or possess other covers and would like to share a scan of your treasure, please CONTACT the Louise Brooks Society. Thank you for your interest. A directory of other pages on the LBS website which feature cover appearances can be found on Louise Brooks – “Cover Girl”.
Additional information about Cineaste, the Japanese publication shown below, is especially desired. BTW: Louise Brooks also appears on the back cover of this issue of Cineaste.
Many of the magazines shown below are film magazines. Those that aren’t include European comics journals, Sarjainfo, which is published by the Finnish Comics Society, and Zozo Lala,an independent comics journal; 7 Days, the magazine of the Sunday Telegraph newspaper: Gargoyle, a literary magazine out of Washington D.C. — this was Brooks second Gargoyle cover; Stile – a lifestyle magazine; TimeOut, a local/regional publication about cultural events; Telegraph, a zine like publication devoted to the rock music group Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (O.M.D.) — fans will recall the popular new wave band recorded a song about the actress; MLN, an academic journal; Rochester People, a local interest magazine from New York; Weekend Australian Review, a weekly devoted to the arts, culture and entertainment published by the Weekend Australian; Le Nouveau Magazine Littéraire, a literary interest magazine; and Emma, a LGBTQ publication.
There is also a story behind The Peak, a Canadian publication. The image of a semi-clothed Louise Brooks which adorns the cover was discovered by the author and posted on the Louise Brooks Society website around 1997, from where it traveled over the world-wide web and was placed on the cover of The Peak, a student magazine at Simon Fraser University in Canada in Vancouver, British Colombia. This issue contained a cover story on silent film by Bess Lovejoy which highlights Brooks and a few other early actresses.
