splash  In the mid- and late 1930s, and then again in 1940, Louise Brooks worked as an exhibition or ballroom dancer. She toured intermittently, performing in nightclubs, ballrooms, roadhouses, theaters and other venues in and around New York, Chicago, Detroit, Louisville, Miami, Los Angeles and elsewhere. This period in Brooks’ life, and the places she danced professionally, is little documented. For more on this period in Brooks’ life, see the Louise Brooks Ballroom Dance Chronology page here on the LBS website. This adjunct page presents, in scrapbook form, some of the images, clippings, advertisements and other ephemeral bits (including even a matchbook) which rounds out the story of Brooks’ work as a ballroom dancer.
